Mobile blogging: Winter breakaway...COPENHAGEN

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark is Scandinavia's most fantastic city, and part of the most dynamic region in Northern Europe, the Øresund Region. The city is one of Europe's oldest capitals with a royal touch - the Danish monarchy being the oldest in the world! It is chic and exciting city with modern architectural and also those historical architectural pearls such as the Royal Castle Amalienborg, or the Church of Our Saviour, and a must to visit Louisiana and Glyptotek, both among the best art museums in Europe;  a walk towards the Gefion Fountain, Copenhagen's own Fontana di Trevi, and see how the Little Memaid is doing. As you know that Carlsberg (the best, obviously) is originated from Denmark and you can enjoy it in one of many cafés by the canal in Nyhavn, or visit the Carlsberg Brewery, to learn about the origins of the world famous Danish beer. It is not complete if you did not take a short ride to another side of straits to Malmo, Sweden. With the Öresund Bridge, the motorway and railway link, it takes only 30 minutes by train from Copenhagen City Centre to the city centre of Malmö, Sweden, another great day trip to Sweden.

Hi Danial[MA]
What a fascinating thing is the history of Kings. Have you noticed that kings are almost always strangers in their own land? Farouk of Egypt was of Albania, Elizabeth of England is of German descent, etc. etc.
I have always found the history of the Danish monarchy an amusing tale. It can be traced to Gorm the Old and his son who made an important contribution to modern technology, Harald Bluetooth. Think where we'd be today if he hadn't been so technically savvy.
And all the thanks he got for it was murder, believed to be by his own son, a man appropriately named Swein (Forkbeard). The Swein made many forays into England and finally got its throne. The English king then, appropriately named Ethelred the Unredy, had defeated the Swein a few times, but dismayed by the latter's persistence, Ethelred finally just shrugged his shoulders and gave up his throne. What an old sport he was and all.
Swein's younger son became King of England in the early part of the 11th century. Swein called him Cnut (and this is where I think the Swein was not only a marauding beast, but also seriously dyslexic as I'm sure he wanted to call his son not that but something close to it). And King Cnut sat in his chair at the water's edge one day to show his subjects that he could rule the waves. An idea that was not lost to future kings in this fair and troubled land...

hej! AG...yeah! very fascinating history of kings/queens...and about Harald 'Bluetooth' Gormson, once my IT lecturer told me that the name of wireless protocol invented by a group of SIG was taken from Harald because historically he united the two scandinavian country namely denmark and norway and for this technology has bring together people around the world...and the joke was that he liked to eat blueberry a lot so that his teeth turned blue...;-)
