Ann, New Book & Foggy Day = Gloomy life...

A gloomy day to start with an email alert from my iPhone brought unsettled feelings for coming summer, yeah the day that have waited anxiously and anticipated since mid 2007, Ann, my office colleague and mentor will retire soon. A new book for summer reading just arrived from Amazon.com could not console the feelings. A foggy day just brought down everything and the feelings just lingered around with the fog slowly blanketed the view.

The case of Derek Bentley tarnished British judiciary history when he was sentenced to death in 1953. The injustice death of Derek has become a landmark case to the abolition of death penalty. this book was written by her sister, Iris Bentley who fought her entire life to clear his name. Sadly, she could not celebrate the victory when she passed away of cancer in 1997, a year before Derek was cleared from the conviction.

A foggy day brought down the feelings, sadness engulfed and the song, Angel by Sarah Mclachlan could not comfort the sadness on gloomy day...and summer this year won't be the same again.

ANGEL
*****
Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
So always some reasons
To feel not good enough
And its hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh beautiful release
Memory seeps from my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
*****
In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
*****
So tired of the straight line
And every where you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
Storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference
Escaping one last time
It's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees
*****
In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
*****

...Ann and her son, Matthew with the mountainous scenery behind them. Matthew was seriously injured and stranded for more than a week with his border collie-cross 'Little Dog', broke an ankle, a wrist and gashed his thigh after plunging 15 feet down a cliff while out hiking in the Southern Alps' remote Douglas Glacier early this month. He managed to walked down the terrain after a week in bad shape and was rescued by two hunters. Ann and hubby will emigrate to New Zealand sometimes this summer. I will miss her as my mentor and her departure is another blow for me and summer this year is really tough and not so kind to me...

Ohh... this is melancholic. But the memories of Ann will always be there. Next summer may turn to be better - things always do :-D

BTW, I do hope Matthew will get better. Is he the reason why Ann is leaving for NZ?
