Bede's World, a museum of early medieval Northumbria at Jarrow. Located in South Shield, by River Don, Tynemouth, Bede's World consists of Bede Museum, Jarrow Hall, St.Paul's Church complex and Gyrwe (pronounced 'Yeerweh', the Old English name for Jarrow), an Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm. The Bede's World is based on extraordinary rich legacy of celebrated life of Venerable Bede (AD 673-735), who lived and worked 1300 years ago in Jarrow.
...greeted by this terracotta soldier at the museum entrance...
the museum is a candidate of world heritage site and i wonder if Malaysia too nominate Lembah Bujang as a world heritage site because i think that Lembah Bujang complex is much more significant in terms of civilization...
...some displays in the museum section...
...a roman on the wall...
...a skeleton of an early farmer in Jarrow...
...a diorama of early Jarrow...
...the Venerable Bede, the man of centre attraction of Jarrow, who was a teacher, poet, historian and scientist...
...St.Paul's Church was one of the churches in one complex, and another one was a monastery which has been left as a ruin beside the church...
...a wooden statue hanging on the high ceiling of St.Paul's Church,
a hanging preacher...
A great half day weekend trip to Jarrow.
